97 Lesabre - Very Hesitant Transmission
Hi everybody, I am new to AF but have gone through the forums for years.
I drive my Lesabre about 70 miles a day to and from work. I have been looking for a thread about this for a while today, didnt have any luck. Last night on the interstate, I would give my car gas and it wouldnt respond at all. I would almost floor it before it would do anything. It finally would downshift but then it would go WOT. I know the tranny is electronically controlled, which makes things more complex. Any ideas or input on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Well your "WOT".. Wide Open Throttle.. means thats all there is, theres no more you have reached your 205hp.
Perhaps Good Luck

I agree that it went WOT, but the car would not react at all until the pedal was floored. Once it did kick in (basically floored), it went WOT. Maybe the transmission solenoid?
Thanks for the response. |

Guessing the TPS may be bad/dirty...
Check it for smooth variation when probed with an ohm meter. EDIT.. are you saying the engine revs but the trannie does nothing?? Good Luck

I have the exact same problem you described on my 92 lesabre. Sometimes she rides fine, but other times I have to either floor it or take my foot off then repress the pedal to get it to go.
Once it does go, like you said, it does go WOT. However, until it goes WOT, the car does not move at all....the car ignores your pedal input (it would seem) This really only happens to me after making tight entrance/exit ramps, so I thought it might have something to do with centripedal force and low fuel (it seems to happen most when fuel is below a half tank for me), but I know that the transmission is going as well, so maybe it is just some other part of the car, and the fuel is a coincidence? This is where we blame GM for producing a crappily made transmission. |

Re: 97 Lesabre - Very Hesitant Transmission
Actually, my problem seemed to happen the most when getting on an interstate as well.
Even more bad news. Friday I pulled out of my driveway babying the transmission, I didnt even make it a block and the car stalled. Now it will not even crank, it tries but just clunks. I dont know if the starter is out, or maybe the flywheel is jammed. Would anybody have any ideas? I'm not sure if the problems are related, but I am told if the transmission goes belly up, the engine will still start. Thanks again for the responses. |

Remove, clean and tighten the battery cables! Also check battery voltage, it should be 12.6V!

Re: 97 Lesabre - Very Hesitant Transmission
I will definitely check the connections, I am pretty sure I have a good charge. That would explain why it shut down and wont crank though, thanks for the response.
