Ford guy buying 1st foreign car, what should I know?
I was in a wreck about a month ago, so I have to get another car and my uncle has a 94 Galant ES 121,000 miles on a 4cyl. auto. What are common problems with these cars? The timing belt broke and he had the upper part of the engine rebuilt and all the other stuff that goes with it. It's just going to be a work car with maybe an ocasional trip on the highway. It runs good, also has new tires, brakes.
Thank You |

Re: Ford guy buying 1st foreign car, what should I know?
I have an '03 and I'm not sure if yous is the same body style, or the first of the next generation. I too was a Ford guy and I've been very pleased with my '03. There are a few little nags that may crop up (I've had my A/C relief valve fail - $12 part then recharge), my condesate drail line plugged up (reach down with a piece of wire and unplug). Other than that it's been great. Nice to drive and reasonable economy - plenty of torque from the 2.4L motor.

I'm still a Ford guy, just bought this because it was cheap and runs good. It's just a in town or work car. Thanks for your help but there is a BIG difference between a 94 and an 03. Mine also has a 2.4. For a 4cyl. it's not bad but, from a stop I have to give it what seems to me to be alot of gas just to get going. I'm used to driving a Taurus w/ the DOHC 3.0 and Mustangs. Hell, even my wife's Taurus w/ just the regular 3.0 moves alot easier than this Galant. Oh well, atleast it gets good gas mileage. |
