SL Limp Mode Tranny

Been trying to get my car sold and I talked to a Mitsubishi guy today who works on these all the time, says 2nd gear is the limp mode and my tranny is gone. But I have been driving it around for weeks like this and nothing has broken yet, plus all online help says 3rd. What do you guys think? Is this guy wrong or is everyone else?

limp mode is 3rd gear. You can confirm this by driving, and seeing what your rpm level is vs. your speed. Also, when in limp mode, your ECU should be sending out a code through the diagnostic port.

Re: SL Limp Mode Tranny

there's a diagnostic connector. You can either do it the old fashion way with a multimeter as seen here

http://www.stealth316.com/2-diagcodes91-93.htm

thats where the connector is located on the 1st gens, the 2nd gens are under the dasy above where your right knee would be if your were sitting in your seat. The pinouts are different on 2nd gens, i can't remember what they are off the top of my head. Also, autozone might be able to do it pending on which year your car is. I know the dealership can do it, but I also know that the dealership will charge to do it. Or you can buy a datalogger and get from that.
