1/20 Tamiya Lola T93/00 SW
I decided to try my hand at a WIP since hopefully it will keep me motivated to finish a kit. This is the 1993 Raul Boesel Lola T93/00 in Speedway trim, though I am unsure on what driver the car will actually be. My goal is to try my hand at a bit of scratchbuilding/detailing on this car. Detailing parts will include a set of PE and Machined parts made by Andy Matthews (www.clearviewf1.com)
I plan to use the following books, along with various images taken from the web. First off is just a bit of cleaning of the parts: As this is a SW version, brake ducts arent actually used, so I trimmed off the moulded intakes off of the rear mounts. I drilled out the tow hole, along with the small vent tubes and will replace with metal tubing. This picture shows the dry brake fuel filler machined part along with the the filled in gap intended to help mount the sidepods as dry fitting shows that I would probably end up chipping the paint trying to get the rear cowl/sidepods to fit. Plus there are about 10 other mounts to seat the rear cowl/sidepods. One final note for anyone doing these snap together kits, I use an exacto knife to expand the peg holes to keep the parts from permanantly connecting when dry fitting the chassis. I'm sensing this will be really nice!
Nice detail set.

Looking forward to this build. It looks like you know what you are doing. Not familiar with the car in question but it looks like it will be cool none-the-less.
Wasn't aware that Andy Mathews sold PE parts. Was this a one off? Regards, Billy P |

Re: 1/20 Tamiya Lola T93/00 SW
I have two of these kits in my to do pile.I'll be watching your build to get some pointers for when I start on mine. Will you be adding detail to the engine area? Or building it straight from the box? The fuel filler looks excellent as do the other parts you have.I'm on the look out for some new decals for one of my kits (Nigel Mansell Texaco/Havoline version) as the Tamiya ones have yellowed and cracked slightly.

Quote:
As for the PE/machined parts, these were left-over sets from when Andy made some Mansell Lolas. He may still have some available, but they are just leftover. Ive decided to paint this one up as Arie Luyndyk's Indy 500 pole winning car since Ive had the opportunity to meet Arie before and has always been a class act. I plan to detail the engine, although I am not sure how far I plan to go with it. I looked at putting some AN fittings and tubing in the engine bay, but that looks like it would get expensive quickly! So we'll see, Im unsure what exactly will go on in the engine area. |

Matthews doesn't do his own P/E, he farms that out.

Re: 1/20 Tamiya Lola T93/00 SW
Sorry on the lack of posts, nothing new has been going on aside from some drilling that isnt worth showing... yet. Plus 0*F temperatures has kept me from painting
