whats with kids these days???

i know we all see idiots on the road everyday. shit i'm usually one of them, but this kid i saw the other day deserves a special mention.

i was driving my ute to work and had barely left my house when i saw a bloke on a Hyosung GTR250. he was parked out the front of his house getting his gear ready. he was wearing sneakers, track pants (nylon of course and rolled up to the knee) and a hoody.

he was on the other side of the road to me and we have long traffic islands to separate oncoming traffic. by the time i got to the next corner, he was on my ass so he had to have gone about 1/8 mile on the wrong side to catch up.
he then sat so close to me and in my rear blind spot that i had no idea where he was. when we got to the main road ( a dual carriageway) he flew past me and thats when i realised he was a learner (less than 6 months exp).

he was overtaking in the gravel lane up the inside and thought he could squeeze between a 10 tonne dump truck and a construction wall. i saw the truck lock and swerve to avoid him. next lights he was 3 cars in front of me.

i was coming home that day when he was out the front of his house. i stopped and suggested he not to buy a honda so my insurance won't go up. he thought for a minute and replied "f@#$ off" as i drove off.

next day he was at least staying in a lane to overtake and wouldn't come up past me at lights.

i hate to see accidents but i reckon this kid needs one........

Re: whats with kids these days???

We got those screwballs...first bike, 750-1000cc superbike, sandals, shorts, tank top (or no shirt), ride like they are invincible...we call them donors here... (as in organs).

On a strange note...we had a rider killed here last night, about 2 am...

What's strange about that?

Last night it was 9F degrees out, snow and ice on the roads.

Seems he accomplished what he set out to do.

Re: whats with kids these days???

i agree, I'm sick of the retards in cali. My bike is decently fast...not fireblade fast but can move at a decent speed so sometimes I like to get on it to get away from some traffice so I can just relax on my ride home....and I guess that means I want to race? Gimme a break...if I wanted to race you I would say "hey, wanna race me?"....don't zoom 6 inches away from me at 120...i'm not intimidated..haha...

I hate when a group of them passes you at trans-warp speed suddenly...it's amazing how fast they can accelerate to pass...sounds like a swarm of angry bees

Re: whats with kids these days???

My buddy had an accident in the dirt about 10 years ago that almost killed him...2 yrs ago he started riding on the street, but he wears sneakers, jeans, t-shirt and a pair of sunglasses. I tell him everyday he needs a helmet and he says he's never going to crash so why bother.

I do often wear sneakers and jeans, but otherwise I have good gear: triumph textile jacket, alpinestars leather gauntlets, and a fulmer d4 full-face. I know I probably should wear boots and textile/leather pants, but I can't see going through the effort whenever I go out.

Re: whats with kids these days???

When I had my Honda Magna, I was passed by some idiot on an older BMW Boxer Twin (late 70's early 80's model) wearing nothing but a pair of sweatshorts, flip-flops and a skull cap helmet. No shirt, no gloves, and doing well over 100MPH. That bike was pushing it's limits keeping up with traffic at 80-ish, so he was just asking for it. He was splitting traffic and riding like a fool.

I haven't seen anyone riding like a fool near my house yet. Most of them I see don't lanesplit even when the cars are all stopped at a red light. I do live in an asian community, so that's maybe something I should be wary of too.
