97 Chev Astro 4.3 rough starting, need some suggestions

1997 Chevrolet Astro Van 4.3 AWD

Hard starting when cold, have to try starting 3 times. When it does start there is no cold fast idle. When driving while cold there are thud noises (cylonoide?) coming from the passenger front side. Already tried new fuel pump and tune up.

Are there any trouble codes? Some of the national brand auto stores will read codes free of charge, if you don't have an OBD11 code reader or scanner.

I always check fuel pressure first, when there is problem with a cold start. I know it has a new pump, but what is the pressure? Did you use a new strainer and filter as well?

When you say tune-up, what did you check and what did you replace?

Tune up = fuel filter, Plugs & wires, cap & rotor, air filter

Also no check engine light is on while running. Haven't checked codes don't have equipment or code reader. Is on its 3rd fuel pump also replaced intake gaskets, O2 sensor, water pump & belt, also had cadilac converter checked-good. Could it be the fuel regulator and is it located between the upper and lower intake. It runs great once started but seems you have to press alot on the accelerator from going from 55 to 65

Check the fuel pressure with the key on and the engine off. While the pump is running, fuel pressure must be a MINIMUM of 60 psi. After 3 to 5 seconds the pump will shut down and fuel pressure must remain above approximately 55 psi and hold for several minutes. Post your results here and we can continue with the diagnosis.

I'll 2nd that "Minimum 60" psi.
My '97 had hard starting, but ran fine after it did start.
A borrowed guage read 59 psi.
After changing the pump, i had no problem
