shouldn't this be in the M3 category instead of the 3 series?

not really cuz it's not an M3. Hartge put the V8 into a 3 series body, not a M3 body. i love that hood!!! the may 2001 issue of car and driver has the H50, but it's only 2 pages long and it doesn't have that sweet hood. i really love the looks. the exhaust configuration is sweet.

little more info....

Street Start 5-60 mph -- 4.9 secs
0-130 -- 17.6 secs
0-150 -- 25.7 secs
Roadholding, 300 ft-dia skidpad -- .89 g
Braking 70-0 -- 168 ft

Well, the engine is an M5, so in that point, they should be the same. But taking into consideration that the 3 series is lighter than the M5, I would believe that this car would win. Different settings and stuff, you know.

I'm surpised that they didn't go all out and supercharge that beast. I noticed the different hood also oppsed to the M/T one, is it M5 based or M3 based, or is it custom built?

It's neither. It's a 3 series, E46 to be exact, with a V8 in it.

Question

Why did they even bother with all of that trouble? The new M3 is only .1 of a second slower 0-60 and .3 of a second slower in the 1/4 mile. Don't get me wrong, that car is one bad mo'fo', but for double the price of a new M3, it should be putting up better figures than that.

I know, i feel sort of sheepish now, i figured it out after i posted that, i think i would rather have an M5 though. just for the sleeper effect and the added room, but i think i would take off the speed limiter and mod it so it would beat the H50.

It's not .1 second faster than M3. The official time from BMW for M3 was 5.1 seconds like M5 I believe. But everyone knew it was capable of 4.7 seconds without trouble. Now this 4.5 second is the official time for M5 engine powered E46. It can probaly do a little better than 4.5 seconds given time to practice. Anyway I think it is a bad idea because it mess up the weight balanced.
