yes it would...would be lots of work though making the swap..wiring harnesses, pcm tunning, transmission work, ect...

Re: Gtp Motor In A 2005 Grand Am

Like MVGTP86 said you could but it would be an incredible amount of work plus it wouldn't bolt up in the engine bay. You would save money and an incredible amount of time and headache to just buy a GTP.

I agree! Save your money and trade the Grand Am on a GTP. The amount of money and work that it would take would cost you more than buying a GTP in the first place.

Re: Gtp Motor In A 2005 Grand Am

Actually A GTP engine wont fit very well in a GA

If you have ever seen a GTP engine bay, its larger then the 05 GA's.
So even it you got it to "fit" , it would cost around $3-5k,
Plus several hundred hours of work.

Not even worth the headaches or the money!

I agree with GTP Dad, trade the GA in on a GTP

I didnt say it hasnt been done, that is putting a 3.8 in a GA.
The SC 3.8 is bigger and I havent seen nor heard of any GTP motors in GA's.
Mizly motor sports is working on a conversion kit for the 3.8 and or trans swap.

That being said, 200-300hrs is not unreasonalbe at all.
Considering removal of motor, replacing the steering knuckles,
because the 4t60-4t65 tranys use larger CV joints/shafts and wheel hub sensors.
Then some other suspension parts need modified/swapped.

Then you have to swap wiring harnesses/pcm.
You ever do a wire harness swap?

I have, and it bites

And if you never have done any FWD engine/trans removals,
you could spend even more time doing this "little" swap

Re: Gtp Motor In A 2005 Grand Am

There is going to be a lot of custom work and fittings you would have to do yourself. And I think 200-300 hours would be if you had a game plan going into the build and really knew what you are doing. God knows how long it simpily took for me to swap a transaxle 6G72 and put in that same exact motor. Even that was a PITA for me.

I know of serveral people who have put L67's (s/c 3.8's) in cavaliers with not to much problem. It would be an easy fit in a grand am, and yes if seen L67's in grand am's there is one i just saw on cardomain. And the s/c 3.8 isnt bigger than the N/A 3.8L, its the same cubic inches and liters it just has an eatons blower/supercharger on top that makes it a couple inches taller but thats all, it uses a different intake manifold than the N/A 3.8l because of the Supercharger.

Re: Gtp Motor In A 2005 Grand Am

I never said it could not or has not been done MVGTP86.
IMO its just a waste of time and money.

And the Cavalier would be easier because I'm preety sure they have the same motor mount locations. I'd sure the heck hate to change the plugs in that, might have to drop the motor

btw I already know what it takes to do this swap.
Which I could realy care less about the 3.8, All I want is the 4t65 trans in my GA on the 3.4

Please lay off the caps, we are not blind!

And on the cost, more then you would like.
You'd be better off just buying a GTP.
But if you have a gtp motor and a ga, well thiers half the cost. The rest would be time and odds and ends parts.

Good Luck!
