blower motor replacement

i have a 97 gp gt with 80k miles. it has the automatic climate control (the digital one) and i'm wondering if the blower motor from siemens with part number PM2714X will work with my car, i'd list the auction i viewed but i dont know if that would violate some sort of aggreement with this website. it says that its for a 99 grand prix, but he doesn't list in the auction if its for a digital or manual climate control

Yes...the 99 blower motor will work in a 97.

yeah the bearing on the fan is shot, it squeals and vibrates, has been doing it for awhile but i've been getting away with not replacing it because its been so mild weatherwise here...

You might get lucky and beable to clean it then use some good lube and bench test it to see if that works.

Im sure you will find all kinds of crap inside the air box once you open it up,leafs,rust,mold and who knows what + they like to hold in water once the drain tube get's pluged.

Gota love the design they used to let fresh air into the air box


you might also want to change the blower motor resistor while you have the fan out....that is also another problem and they cosy around 25 bucks.

Getting ready to buy a hand held tunner and get a magnaflow catback and bought a Volant CAI when I first got the car.Would really like to get a set of long tube header's but dont want to have to mess with the rack,so I might go with a set of JBA shorties and mid-pipes....dam mod bug....lol

Personally, I'd pass on it. The Siemens blower PM2714 is a universal one size fits all GM "W" body car and others design. It is of poor quality, made in Mexico, and comes with universal wires and crimp on connectors. It was designed for the C60/C67 manual HVAC systems and not the CJ2 auto climate control system (ACC). The connector coming from the blower motor control module would have to be cut and the blower connections spliced in. The Siemens does not have the standard GM electrical jack built into the motor housing. Physically as far as bolt pattern it will fit. However, there is no guarantee it would work or last because the ACC-CJ2 blower motors have different ratings.

Check with Ed Morad at his on-line EBay parts store. He has used blowers that will work for your year model Grand Prix at reasonable prices and with a guarantee. Just make sure the part numbers are as follows:

The C60/C67 manual HVAC systems use a blower motor resistor and the ACC CJ2 use a blower motor control module which is expensive at around $100. Plus the modules are fairly reliable and do not need to be replaced arbitrarily versus the infamous blower motor resistor.

The blower motors are different between auto climate control and manual A/C so I agree with bnaylor that I would pass on the Siemens universal part (the AC-Delco part number he referenced is correct for your vehicle). Since you have the auto climate control, there is no blower resistor either (as bnaylor pointed out), just the blower control module, which rarely fail. I would suggest adding a cabin air filter from a like year Buick Regal while you're in there, to help with water intrusion and keep debris/dust out of the HVAC system. For reference, the AC-Delco part number for the cabin air filter is CF132.

i'm guessing the module is what i need to replace then, it just seems that the bearing has gone out on the fan itself and is squealing/rumbling whenever i turn it on....

You need a blower motor if it's noisy, the module just controls fan speed. I (and bnaylor) were suggesting a different brand than the universal Seimens branded one you were looking at, as they are of questionable quality. The cabin air filter suggestion will help prevent water and debris intrusion which is what kills the blower motors in these cars.
