One saliant phrase in the JR that shows some reserve against giving Bush unlimeted powers is:

(2) APPLICABILITY OF OTHER REQUIREMENTS. -- Nothing in this resolution supersedes any requirement of the War Powers Resolution.

It's all a big mess, but it's time for a new plan. Bush's escaltion will not work, maybe he should have listened to daddy and adopted the Baker Comiisions plan.

Yup, I agree on that one too but it is a moot point. It is now well known the additional troops are going and as I mentioned earlier many are already there. There will be no funding cut and the new joint resolution in opposition to the troop surge will be non-binding. Has anyone offered a better plan that will work? Escalation? Looks like a typical "Order of Battle" to me. Plus the moderate Arab states support the new Bush plan. I'm willing to see if it works. But if it fails it is time to pull the troops out and call it quits.

On January 11, 2007, the Department of Defense announced, as part of President Bush's new strategy for Iraq, the following force adjustments which would result building the capacity available to commanders to 20 brigade or regimental combat teams:

The 2nd BDE, 82nd Airborne Division, and assigned as the call forward force in Kuwait, will move into Iraq and assume a security mission there.
The 1st BDE, 34th Infantry Division, Minnesota ARNG, will be extended in its mission for up to 125 days and will redeploy not later than August 2007.
The 4th BDE, 1st Infantry Division, will deploy in February 2007 as previously announced.
Three other Army combat brigades will deploy as follows:
The 3rd BDE, 3rd Infantry Division, will deploy in March 2007.
The 4th Stryker BDE, 2nd Infantry Division, will deploy in April 2007.
The 2nd BDE, 3rd Infantry Division, will deploy in May 2007.
The Marine Corps will extend two reinforced infantry battalions for approximately 60 days.
The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) will remain in Iraq for approximately 45 additional days.
Finally, the USS Stennis Carrier Strike Group and the 3rd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Regiment will deploy to the region to bolster security.

I see similarities but in a much smaller magnitude to Vietnam which was the biggest foreign policy failure and mistake in modern U.S. history. Gee, I wonder what party got us into that war? Hard to forget 58,000 Americans killed in action.

As to the War Powers Act it is worthless as the paper it is written on. What about Bill Clinton and Yugoslavia? No joint resolution from Congress on that illegal war. Technically, that was a unilateral action and a blatant attack on a sovereign nation.

Sorry guys but we're stuck with Bush for another 2 years.

There's a lot of propaganda on both sides of any war. Generally speaking most of the bullshit comes from the parties that start the fight. Their first lie is usually that they didn't start it and they were completely justified. Every time they screw up, they come up with horseshit like 'communities that hide terrorist and their equipment beneath their babies beds', that is so obviously bogus that only a simpleton or a self deluding coward would accept as fact.
