Camry 2000 makes noise when turn the wheel all the way to the left and right.

My camry 2000 makes noise at the front wheels and some time the wheel controller shaking when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right. Do you have any suggestion or ideas for this issue that I have. Please help with this.

Re: Camry 2000 makes noise when turn the wheel all the way to the left and right.

Tough to tell for sure from a desk hundreds of miles away but, sounds like a power steering system issue. Possible causes:

Low idle rpm
Loose or worn power steering pump drive belt
Low or contaminted power steering fluid
Worn power steering pump.

Suggest you check the power steering fluid level in the reservoir. Add fluid if needed. If you're getting a squeal as you turn the steering wheel it's a sign the power steering belt is loose or worn. If the belt has been on the car more than 3 years, change it. If all looks good drain the power steering fluid and refill with fresh fluid. Last resort, change the power steering pump.

If you're turning the wheels all the way to the stop and then it starts shaking, try to avoid it. Turning the wheel to the stop all the time strains the whole steering system. Cheers.

If it's more of a popping noise have the tie-rod knuckles checked.

Re: Camry 2000 makes noise when turn the wheel all the way to the left and right.

Thanks for you replied but I am a dump mechanic and know a little about car.

if it's low idle rpm, how can I adjust it to be at normal speed?
if Loose or worn power steering pump drive belt, where can find that belt and replace it?
If Low or contaminted power steering fluid, how can I empty it?
If Worn power steering pump "Have no idea what it meant"

Thank You

Re: Camry 2000 makes noise when turn the wheel all the way to the left and right.

First does the steering wheel shake or shimmy while turning from straight to full left/right or does it start shaking as it gets near the full left/right stops? If it's the later don't worry about it. Does the problem appear when the engine is above idle driving down the road or just at idle in your driveway or a parking lot? Is the noise a moan/whine/squeal or a pop/clunk? What engine do you have?

Idle rpm is set by the ECU and it's sensors so I think you can't adjust it. Should be 700rpm +/- 50 with cooling fans off. If it's not in spec look at intake air sensors.

Two ways to change the power steering fluid. Disconnect the return line connection at the pump and let it drain or siphon the fluid out of the reservoir. If you try the later, use an ordinary kitchen turkey baster. You'll have to suck it out, refill, drive a few miles, and repeat the process three/four times to get all the fluid changed.

Worn pump means the rotor vanes in the pump have gotten clogged or damaged in some way, not letting the pump produce the pressure it should.

You can find more details on the belt in the "Factory Service Manuals" thread at the top of the forum.

I found two TSBs concernig your power steering (ST004-00 and ST008-01). I think they would apply more to a clunk or pop noise than a squeal or moan. http://tril.shineautoproject.com/camry/99/TSBs.pdf

From your description of squeal, it sounds like the power steering belt is a bit loose and slipping a bit under load. Tighten the belt yourself or take it to a professional to have it tightened. The labor will be minimum.

Re: Camry 2000 makes noise when turn the wheel all the way to the left and right.

You access it from under the car on the passenger side in the engine compartment. From memory (it's been a while since I did one) you crawl under the car while it is raised slightly and supported safely on jackstands. Pull back the passenger side inner fender liner on the inboard side a bit, to expose the pump and belt. How to loosen it, then leverage it and retighten it should then be obvious. If it's not, then you should take it in and have it done. Cost really should be minimal.

a loud noise when the steering is locked to one side or the other is also indicative of bad ball joints.
