Re: 70 Firebird

I finished the interior tonight. It's tamiya brilliant blue, a little glossier than I would like it but it's not too bad. I looked at some pics if a 70 TA online and found that there wasn't much as far as detail in the interior so I just concentrated on the dash. Tha second body color is drying and I should be putting the clear on tomorrow or monday.

Re: 70 Firebird

The painting is done, it came out great! After the blue dried I took the decals and cut out the blue inside and used the black border to outline my paint. It was a pain in the a_s but well worth it. I sprayed the clear last night and today I have been doing some engine bay detailing.

A little paint and I added a radiator overflow tube and a window washer line from the washer tank to the pump/motor.

The chassis

I need to get some tamiya brilliant blue in a bottle so I can finish the interior. The A pillar, headliner and side panels need to be painted. After that it's time for the final assembly. From my first impressoin of this kit I didn't think it would go together so nicely. It's turning out way better than I first thought. I knew I was really going to have to bring it life with some paint and detail. A good challenge.

Re: 70 Firebird

wow, that looks fantastic! Personally I would've used a Sharpie to do the outline instead, whole lot less work .... came out real well though.

Re: 70 Firebird

Looking good so far. I have the same kit that I'm currently working on. I've been debating on how to do the stripe on mine as well. The decal in the kit is not quite the right color and it should be metallic. It's going to be a little tricky to get right and still keep the black fade.

Also, I noticed on my kit while test fitting the front grill / headlight piece that the grill doesn't push all the way into the openings like it should. I had to cut the headlights from the grill and this allows the grill to fit into the openings like it should, then I'll mount the headlights seperately.

I haven't decided how much extra detail to add to my engine bay yet, if any. I'll most likely just add spark plug wires and maybe a couple of major hoses.

Your chassis looks great.

Re: 70 Firebird

Good job the paint is awesome. I really like the stripe. I cant wait to see this all done. as for the roadrunner, been kinda busy and the tamiya paint is hard to strip with csc...so tonite I should check it and sdrub it to see if it needs more time or not. I should get the interior done sometime soon. Sorry to keep ya waiting!

Re: 70 Firebird

All done!!!
After I took the pictures I realized I never glued the rear panel in that's why it looks crooked. It's fixed now.
Here is the link to the completed project gallery with lots of pics. Enjoy.

Re: 70 Firebird

Looks great. All you need is the rear trans-am decal..yes which unfortunately was left out of the kit. I believe the stripe also extends onto the rear wing, but I may be wrong. Overall the detail added is excellent, far better than I can do with my shaky hands. The engine looks awesome. I'm just finishing mine, no extra detail added OOB revell, and I used the stripe decal..If i can get my macro lens I'll post mine and everyone can laugh at how much better yours is. Good job
