Toyota TF102 - Allan McNish

I always liked the look of this car. so I picked up the Revell kit!

tires/wheels painted up

the red I used looks like a close match to the decals, only the decals are somewhat transparent and they look a little darker where they overlap the paint, I didn’t know until it was to late lol still not really to noticeable!

Looks great James.Paintwork looks tricky to do.Have you painted the main red areas and the ragged edges are decals? I can't see the joins if you did.Looks good however you did it.Look forward to seeing some more progress.

Yup the edges are decal, in the instructions it shows you what areas to paint. Kind of tricky but the decals will hide any error lol

Re: Toyota TF102 - Allan McNish

This looks like a tough decal job you´re accomplishing (didn´t expect anything less from you). Did you use the paint suggested by Revell on this or did you use a different color?

Paint and decals look great - your work makes me want to pull out my kit of the same and start on it

Please keep the updates coming.

Re: Toyota TF102 - Allan McNish

I've never seen you build a car like this before, so this will be extra interesting. As usual, you are off to a flying start and up to your usual high workmanship and very clean building style.

Re: Toyota TF102 - Allan McNish

Hi James

Another great and clean build from you.
Looks very promising indeed. Any special reason why you're building the Allan McNish car ? Just curious...

One thing that is a bit distracting, at least for me. Compared to the pictures in your first post you seem to have darkened the panel lines quite a bit.
In my opinion, I think they're a bit too pronounced. Did you use black for this ?
I read somewhere, I think it was an article by Alex Kustov, that with lighter colors he uses a toned down color of the base color of the car instead of black. So the panel lines don't stand out too much.

Maybe a tip for your next F1 kit. Because I do hope that this won't be your last !

I choose the McNish car because I have not seen anybody else make it lol.

For the panel lines I use a mix of grey/black, it just personal taste I like the dark panel lines. They look nice in person, the camera always picks out more than the eye can see lol, But on a more detailed better kit I might choose to do it differently

Re: Toyota TF102 - Allan McNish

Hi James,

Nice subject and nice to see the McNish version.

The paint and decal job looks excellent. I have to agree with DerXL about the lines on the body... they look too pronounced (at least on the pictures). The screw-holes look at little big too. However, I don't want to be overly critical as the paintwork and decalwork you have done are wonderful.

Keep up the good work,
Billy P

Re: Toyota TF102 - Allan McNish

Very very good job on what I've heard is a rather below par kit. Very well done!

Godfather23, I read an article a while ago (think it was TMMI) where TS49 was used on a S27 Toyota, just for interest's sake.
