Noise/Vibration At High Speeds

New member first time post. I have a 2000 Rodeo, 3.2 V6, almost 120K. Runs Great! I recently noticed a noise or vibration when accelerating through 71 mph up to 75 mph. The noise is hard to describe. It sounds almost like metal on metal grinding or shaking then goes away; or possibly a rock pinging rapidly against metal? Definitely originating from the front of the vehicle as far as I can tell. The sound is not heard below 70 or above 75, and is not felt in the steering or the ride itself. Skid plates all appear to be in place and tight. Has anyone had any of the same symptoms?

When was the last time you repacked your wheel bearings?

is there are a 'feel' component here or just the sound?

what first comes to mind with the speed specific symptom is something to do with the wheels or tires out of balance, but not necessarily the sound

can you try describing it again...differently (if that makes sense) to see if some other description rings a bell

P.S. a quick thought: there isn't a pebble in the 'hub cap' is there? or maybe the wheel trim isn't seated properly.

This is a very good thought, didn't think to mention it, but when I had the OEM steel wheels they were notorious for collecting a rock or two and wedging it between the brakes somehow causing the most godawful sound.

Re: Noise/Vibration At High Speeds

Your current tire size is fine. What do they look like in terms of life remaining?

Re: Noise/Vibration At High Speeds

if you haven't jacked it up yet this afternoon...
when you do, tug on the front wheels a the tires, 6 and 12 o'clock and then 3 and 9 o'clock and note any movement, especially differences between wheels.
this might help isolate any play problems
also check the brake, pad hardware and pad life. do you have those little springy things that squeek when the pads get thin?

Problem solved. I shouldn't be so lazy, but it has been raining here for several days. Loose skid plate/missing two bolts/small pebbles. Thanks for responce.

Re: Noise/Vibration At High Speeds

yes, the noise and vibration from a loose skid plates and pebbles at 70mph-74mph is a well known and well documented problem with isuzus. sorry we forgot to mention that one.
