1995 7.3L superduty turbo
Does anybody know what would cause the turbo for a 1995 powerstroke make a strange whistling noise whenever the truck is running? mine started doing this yesterday morning and i know my way around a four or six cylinder turbo out of an import car but frankly this has me perplexed. it hasn't been moved since for fear of damaging the engine but if anyone knows if this is just the blow-off valve or the turbo is actually broken it would be quite helpful? if you think it is the turbo could anyone tell me what kind of turbo my truck came with from the factory so i can find a new or rebuilt one?

Re: 1995 7.3L superduty turbo
Have you checked the two hose connections between the turbo out let and the head ducting??? Mine seemed spongy but did not leak. You may have a slit that only shows up under boost.

Re: 1995 7.3L superduty turbo
thedieselstop.com is an excelent source of information on your truck reallly helpful there. i would start by saying i dont think it has a blow off valve. the turbo is supposed to whistle. when at idle almost cant notice it but at around 2k rpms and up you can hear and feel the power from the turbo. if the performace of the truck hasnt changed i would say its ok. but if the whistle comes and goes at an idle it could be a mess of problems. like i said try posting at thedieselstop.com in the correct year they should be able to help good luck
