the ve is a better match for the turbo than the de if youre building motors, a 8k redline gives you better turbo options to balance mileage with power, you can go with a big snail that starts to make boost at 5500, adjust your vvl accordingly and have a car that gets 35mpg scooting around but makes 400+hp when you run it up over the boost line and the vvl kicks in, you can have a shitload of lag and still have the revs to have 2500 rpm of power curve at the top
