Best place to get a catalytic converter?
After spending a week trying to figure out why the check engine light was on, I gave up and took it to my friendly mechanic. It took him all of 2 seconds to figure it out. The element in the cat has broken and the O2 sensor behind the cat is causing the light to come on. So, who knows where the best place to get a cat that doesn't cost $500? And, do you have any installation suggestions. Like, don't try it yourself, take it to the dealer - or whatever. This is for a 2000 Trooper.

This outfit looks interesting: http://www.convertergeek.com/epcstar...ntid=converter
Or you could get a universal cat welded in. Are you positive the downstream O2 sensor is not the culpret? Keep in mind federal emissions warrants cats for something like 7yrs/80K miles. Check your owners manual! G/luck Joel

You can hear the element inside the unit rattling and making noises like it's broken into several pieces. I have no clue how the thing could have broken, but the mechanic said that he sees this often. Thanks for the link. Bill |

if its a bolt on get your trusty crobar and bang all the ceramic and stuff out making sure none is left in or youl clog muffler now go buy the cheapest cat you can find if your car runs clean if not get one from a freind or buy a 3 stage cat and swap it when you go get it smogged then when you pass put the gutted one back on
