when i put on my 4wd or 4wd low my front tires dont move...
when i first bought the truck it worked, and then i guess i didnt turn it off correctly and i would occasionally hear a crunhing noise.. i was told that it was from tension building up from driving on flat land. so anywya.. when i turn it on no front tires spin... how much are hubs or what else could the problem be? P.S. (i checked all fuses and relays already.) |

Re: 1996 4wd Hubs
Are you saying the front wheels lock up when you engage 4WD (ie: won't rotate) or that the drivetrain does not drive them (Explorer remains in 2WD)?

Re: 1996 4wd Hubs
Are you saying the indicator light is showing engagement? Is the front shaft tuning? On my '90 Ranger I had this situation, and my auto-locking hubs were bad.I replaced them with new from Ford, and the new hubs are better built than the orriginal.

Re: 1996 4wd Hubs
When you have the iight on (4x4),with vehicle stopped and shut off,in park or blocked from movement, check the front driveshaft. If it does't turn.the problem is not in the transfer case.I don't know which system the '96 uses. The '90 Ranger uses the rotation of the axle shafts to engage the hubs, and the original hubs were weak. The newer Fords use a vacuum system and I have no experience with them.
