what do you think of this setup?

Im thinking of going 2 phoenix gold component 6.5" speakers in my door, and a jl audio w3v2 10" or an eclipse SW7000 in a hidden box in my hatchback trunk (firebird). Here's the box I think im getting, what sub would work best in it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...8782&rd=1&rd=1
What do you guys think? What kind of amp do I need or would you suggest?

Re: what do you think of this setup?

I honestly wouldnt go with w3s because you dont get a lot of power for your money. I havent really heard anything bad about eclipse subs, but i dont really know, when it comes to subs at the price range your looking for which im guessing is probably around 150-170 (all of my prices come from woofersetc.com). I would go with a kicker comp-vx (600watts RMS but its $180). OR Alpine Type-R becuase for 140 bucks ur gettin 500watts RMS. Amp wise I would go with any 2-4ohm stable and about 500w/rms. (maybe 400w/rms with the apline). You may even want to step it up to a 12" sub only because thats a big car and you may not get the amount of bass that you're expecting from a 10". Unless you mount it pointing upwards because then the sound will bounce right off the back window and you would be able to hear it a lot better. One of my buddies has a newer camaro (which has basically the same type of body style as the firebird) and he had one 10" JL W7 mounted on the side like you're looking at doing and he couldnt hear the bass like he wanted to. So all we did was mount it facing upwards and it made a HUGE difference.

A good site to look at would be woofersetc.com they have a lot of stuff for really cheap compared to getting the stuff in stores. or www.frys.com (a lot of their kicker stuff was on sale last time i checked)

Re: what do you think of this setup?

How much bass are you looking for because my uncle used to have a old iroc-z with that style enclosure in it and it hit pretty hard for a single 10", he also made the enclosure with a small slot port. All you need for a decent setup which wont be more than 400 for everything. A 4channel amps with between 60-100 watts x4 RMS. Make sure that bridged it can handle a 2-ohm load and puts out at least 300rms. Now you need the comps and a sub, best suggestions i have are either an alpine type-r/s, infinity perfect or something like an IA 187 series, or a treo TSi10.4, or something like an eD 11Kv.2. Anything small like that with about 250+ rms power should hit pretty decent.

If you want something good spend the extra 20-30 and get some thing higher quality.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.
