2001 Taurus drive belt removal

How do I get this thing off? I have 102k on this car and I need to replace the belt, also it is making a noise like a bearing has gone out in the drive belt system so I need to find out what is making the noise. I suspect the idler pulley, BUT I CAN'T GET THIS BELT OFF! HELP! The manual(haynes) shows a bolt, but I can't find anything that looks like it.

There is a diagram of the serpentine belt routing on your emissions label under the hood of your car that runs along the radiator shroud. That label will also show where the bolt is located on the spring loaded pully. It is a bitch to get to without the correct tools.

Can't get to it with rachet but if you put a 15mm wrench on it and "piggy back" another wrench on the open-end end of the wrench...you can easily pull it and change the belt...clockwise for ohv and counterclockwise for dohv engine

The belt may very well be making the noise.

You can buy a serpentine belt tool any where they sell tools. Harbor freight is about the cheapest.

All it is is a thin metal bar with a 3/8 drive on it. It comes with two or three sockets and crwo feet.

It takes about 5 minutes to change.

I don't have the emissions label anymore. Can someone take a photo of it for me and send it to me? I am not sure if we can exchange or post email here, or if there is a version of this serpentine belt diagram online anyway. I have searched very hard. I don't want to buy the book. I have a 2000 Taurus FFV...

Are you looking for the belt routing diagram? If so, there should be a routing diagram located on a sticker under the hood. If the front end has received damage and the sticker is no longer there, then there should be a diagram in your owner's manual.

If you don't have the owner's manual either, then you can download an electronic copy from Ford's website.

I don't have a copy of the service manual for 2001 model year, but if the 2002 model year is the same, you can send me a private message with an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments along with the engine that is in your car (12V Vulcan, 24V Duratech).
