1993 heater core

ok, first, let me say sorry, I know this is probably the most popular post on this forum, but i'm stumped and need help. I've got a '93 escort wagon. I've changed heater cores before, twice, in other cars, last one was in a subaru a few years ago. I know the dash has to come out of my escort to get this accomplished, but I can't seem to find all the screws and bolts to get it out. Anyone know where I can find a post with pics? I saw one a year or so ago, but managed to put it off till now and can't find the post anymore. I've got the time and the ability, just need a comprehensive guide to get through the process, I figure no point in doing more than is necessary. Any help is very much appreciated. thanks I love this car and don't want to lose it to a heater core so help me if you can.

Re: 1993 heater core

I don't know how much help this will be, but here is a thread with detailed step-by-step instructions, although I'm not sure which specific Escort models it refers to:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=206813

And here is the Autozone guide to instrument panel removal and replacement, although this is just a generic guide - not specifically for heater core replacement purposes. It does have some line drawings at the foot of the page, but unfortunately they're only for the '97 to '99 models - the '91 to '96 notes don't have any illustrations.

I couldn't find the post with pics which you mentioned.

Edit: Some more pages from Autozone:

Heater core removal

Control cables removal

Control panel removal

Some years ago, I had to remove the heater core on my Lada (a Russian vehicle). At the time I thought it was a big job, but compared to the task which you appear to have ahead of you, it was only a stroll in the park. I liked that Lada, it was a good car if somewhat basic by modern standards. Anyway, good luck.

Edit: Good photo here, titled 'Changing the heater core in an early 90's Escort':

Re: 1993 heater core

thanks selectron that was just what i Needed. The pic helped a lot! At least now I know I'm on the right track. I've got the dash out, so now it's simply(heehee) a matter of putting it all back together. Thanks again!

That's good news - well done! I hope the reassembly will go smoothly.
