99 GT oil coolant mix
Hi I have a 99 GT with 75K miles on it, and last night I went to start it and found it wouldn't the first 3 tries, finally it started and I found it to run rough and really start to smoke. I checked the oil and it looked like chocolate milk. I assumed it would be the LIM gasket or the head gasket but no obvious blowouts can be seen. So I thought about a cracked head but again no cracks can be seen. So I am kind of at a loss. I have the car in the garage with the engine taken down to the block. What else would cause the coolant oil mix? Or is there a way to check the gaskets/heads more closely?
I also have a question about dropping the oil pan what is the procedure for that is it extremely difficult. I would think taking off some bolts around the pan and prying it off, but my Haynes manual list some super difficult procedure that includes taking off the right wheel and the engine mount on that side and take the suspension apart on that side. It shouldn't be that difficult should it? |

Re: 99 GT oil coolant mix
Sometimes you can see the blowout on the LIM or head gaskets, sometimes you cant.
You can have the heads/intake Xrayed to check for cracks but that expensive. So you didnt see anything funny looking on the Lower intake, around the water jackets? The last one I changed on my SE was very weird too. Same chocolate oil, done compression test, was very high and held pressure well. So I just changed the LIM.... well I ended up changing it 5 times before I just ripped the heads off and thier was a very tinny spot blown out, leaking coolant into the oil. ![]() On the oil pan, good Luck! Your manual is probly real close on the details. ALong with the regular bolts that go through from the bottom, thiers also some along the sides of the pan. Which is why you need to remove the brackets and other do dads. Best way I found to get the side bolts is a ratcheting wrench(gear wrench). Its tight down there for sure! You might as well pull the pan to clean out the sludge and see if thier is any metal in their. My last LIM I did the same, I drove 250+miles @ 65-70mph(highway)with coolant in the oil. THought for sure I had ruined my engine, but I got Lucky. Oh I even mic'd the main/rod bearings since I was in there. And take your time! Good Luck!

Re: 99 GT oil coolant mix
Well I had the Heads resurfaced and checked for cracks only thing the machine shop saw was that the side of the #1 cylinder spot on the back head was slightly at an angle which he thinks caused it to leak coolant like it was, he took off 6 thousands. We also saw that the #1 cylinder hadn't been firing apparently so we think that the coolant got in there and kept the cylinder from combusting. (Plug was very gunky, the piston was kind of wet inside, and the piston had nowhere near the carbon deposits in it).

Re: 99 GT oil coolant mix
.006 is quite a bit off, I would say that was probly the leak area.
Ya coolant will clean up the cylinder(s). On my older V8s I've poured water down the carb (while warm and running) to clean things out. I wouldnt recomend doing it to a newr engine though ![]() Sounds like you will be back on the road soon.
