1996 Problems, Please Help.
Hello all, new here. I did a search and came up with nothing. On to my problems. I have a 1996 Trooper that I bought new, it has 206k miles, and recently I have noticed two things. 1) Sometimes the blower will not blow, but the A/C or fan switch is on one of the four positions. If I flip the vent open, and close, it will start blowing. No big deal right now. 2) I've notice under hard acceleration, or sitting (while idling in drive-throughs) the dash lights light up, i.e. 4wd, everything else on dash. Also, battery gauge goes all the way over. At this point I'm stuck in 3rd gear. If I downshift, it sounds like the tranny isn't meshed, and is horrible like metal-on-metal. I can fix this by turning the truck off, and back on. After it drives fine. Also, when this happens, I can hear "clicking" noises from under the dash near the fuse box. All fuses are fine btw. Sorry so long winding, just wanted to be precise. Thanks for any help.

Another vote for the alternator failing - these trucks will do weird things when they're low on voltage.
Sounds great that your over 200k, I'm on my way with a '97 Rodeo at 166k - is your's an auto or stick shift?

*dealer new if available *dealer rebuilt *rebuilt by bosch, my favorite for quality and price. the bigbox rebuilds don't rebuild it correctly/ entirely and when they test them good they don't test them correctly/entirely. they can be bad right out of the box or go in a month or two or three., the lifetime warrantee is a guarantee that you will be replacing them throughout your lifetime. //bc P.S. if you did a search on this and came up with nothing, try putting in different search terms -- this is a well known and documented symptom of isuzu alternator failure.
