1992 PA car alarm question
Hello - I just inherited a 1992 Park Avenue. It's in great condition, with only 62,000 miles. But there's a problem. It doesn't have the owner's manual, and every so often the factory installed car alarm starts blasting (horn honking, lights flashing). I have no idea how to set the alarm, so I don't know when it's on or off. Does anyone know how I disengage the alarm without cutting any wires? And where can I get an owner's manual? Thanks.

Hello & welcome to AF! I scanned the info you need on the alarm system, from the 92 Owners manual. Click on the thumbnail to expand. You may have a bad "tamper switch" on one of the doors or trunk lock. The tamper switch detects unwanted guest from jerking or otherwise trying to disable your locks without a key. In the trunk, you have a blue wire coming from the "tamper switch" and it can be cut to disable the switch. This would have no effect on opening & closing of the trunk! It only disables the tamper switch. Of course, it you want to replace the switch, you can get a new one from the dealer for about 100 bucks. You might find an owners manual on Ebay or at a salvage yard. It sounds like you inherited a nice car!

Re: 1992 PA car alarm question
Keep in mind that the alarm is armed only when the doors are locked with the manual button or the remote while the doors are still open. If you wait until the door is closed the alarm is not armed. Good luck.
