Galant 1997 Engine cranks slowly, but it wouldn't start!
While I was driving my car all sudden it just stalled and it didn't start again. The engine cranks, but really slowly. I checked the compression and it is very low, which makes me thing that there is something damaged internally. However I was wondering if that slow engine rotation could be result of bad starter which just doesn't provide enough power to the engine to crank. If anyone had similiar problem that would like to share with me I would be very thankful.
Thank you. |

Re: Galant 1997 Engine cranks slowly, but it wouldn't start!
A bad starter is not very likely. Also if the engine is cranking very slowly you are not going to get a correct compression reading because the air will have time to bleed past the piston rings. Is your battery fully charged? If you hook another car up to it to jump start it does it turn over at a normal speed or does it continue to turn over very slowly. If you you had an amp gauge to check how much current the starter is drawing when turning the engine over that would tell you something but the you would need to be sure that the battery was fully charged or those readings would be thrown off as well.

Since temperatures have been dropping, I would say that your battery isn't strong enough to start the engine. Try starting it mid-day when temperatures are warmer and getting it to the parts store to get a new battery. Or get a temporary jump to help the engine turn over. Happened to my Eclipse a couple of weeks ago.
