Changing belts in a 97??

My 97 has developed a "squeal" that only shows up around 3100 rpm, when crusing along and also when shifting at rpms around there.
Boyfriend thought it sounded like a belt squeal so we went to change them.
Got the power steering and the alternator belt changed.
But the AC belt stumped us because there is something, some kind of mount it looks like, running thru the middle of it.
As it was late and dark by that time, we didn't have the energy to really devote to figuring out how to get that sucker off and left the old belt.
So...I still have a squeal, although it doesn't seem as loud as it was before.
Any hints suggestions on how to get that third belt changed??
Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with the procedure but I will tell you that I just had my radiator changed and had the shop do the belts at the same time and they found the motor mount broken. So you must be on the right track and may have to remove the mount to change the belt.

Re: Changing belts in a 97??

The easiest way to change the belts on a '97 CR-V is buy doing it from underneath. I watched my mechanic replace all of my belts. $250 later, I realized that I could've done it myself. Still, the belt isn't difficult if you try to access it from below. Just remember that it's ten times easier if you remove the driver's side front wheel first.

Re: Changing belts in a 97??

Squeal at 3100 rpm,,, mmm.. that sounds like a problem in either the clutch disc or the water pump belt.. donno if CRV's have its water pump working on electric powered motor or -like older cars- by a belt. when the belt is worn out, and at higher rpm's it start to "Slip off" and this slows its speed while the engine is still running high, so there will be slipping rubber being run by a metallic wheel which causes that zeeeeeeeky sound
AC belt shouldnt be the problem if u still hear the sound while the AC is off!

Good luck
