02 PA-Dual Digital Heat/Air Blower

Intermittent blower operation. Air quits coming from floor/vent/windshield. Blower motor runs fine but loads up when the air cannot get out. Works most of the time but never know when the air flow is going to stop. Removed the panel on the driver side and middle. There is an actuator that moves the divertor from floor/vent/w-shield located near the center console. It works fine when operating properly. Have not had opportunity to observe when the air stops flowing. Is there anything else that would cause this condition? What is the remove and replace procedure? Is it a factory only actuator?
Thanks a lot for any advice!

Re: 02 PA-Dual Digital Heat/Air Blower

The HVAC actuators are factory only. I am not aware of any aftermarket brands. Have you checked to make sure accessory vacuum is good coming from the engine intake manifold area to the dash?

Welcome to AF.

Re: 02 PA-Dual Digital Heat/Air Blower

Thanks for the post. Sorry, but I have been unable to locate any vaccum line(s) from the intake to the firewall/dash. Only see the 2 aluminum lines about 1/2 & 3/4 inch plus the 2 heater lines about the same size entering near the brake booster. What size and location am I looking for?

The vacuum line should be hard plastic about 1/8 inch. Look behind the UIM (Plenum) for a NA 3800 and top of supercharger for Ultra PA. There is a Y adapter that feeds vacuum to the brakes and HVAC accessory vacuum. Routes along the firewall, may loop around by the battery and enters the cabin via the main wiring harness then to a distribution block around the area of the blower motor.

Thanks a bunch, bnaylor! May be a day or two before I get to use your information. A crimped or collapsed hose is a likely culprit. Seems it does it when the engine has been running a long time and more likely to be really hot. Thanks again!

Has not acted up again. Will be unable to check it out any further for a while anyway. Could not locate the vaccum line coming through the firewall or ending near the blower motor. Looks like there are 3 actuators in the system.

If your car is still using the vacuum controls to change the vents, you could have collapsing nipples in the connector where the vacuum is switched from different motors to control the doors inside the heater box. This is a do-it-youself fix.

But the 2000 leSabres had electric controls on the AC heater box. I wonder if yours also has electric motors to move the dampers.

The vacuum tube looks like a large electrical wire. It's shiny black and like previous poster said about 1/8 inch in diameter.

Re: 02 PA-Dual Digital Heat/Air Blower

Thanks for the suggestions. After a close examination, I cannot find any vaccum line(s)/connectors/nipples. All I can find are 3 electric driven motors that perform the various changing of the dampers. It is still operating correctly but I will drive it 500 miles next weekend. That is when it acted up the last time.

Re: 02 PA-Dual Digital Heat/Air Blower

Acted up again on the 500 mile trip. It started working correctly when I upped the temperature to 85-90. After it started working correctly, turned it back down to 75,etc. Worked ok, then acted up again, raised the temp to 85-90, blowers blew air out of vents ok. Did this 4-5 times during the 8 hour trip. Working correctly since 11-15-06.
