92' Accord rear motor mount

I have a 92’ accord (auto) with a rough idle in gear. Also, when cruising slow and letting off the throttle, the car shifts into the next gear with a slight jerk or klunk.

I think the rear motor mount is shot.

I placed the car in drive with the e-brake set. I revved the motor while watching the rear mount move up and down vertically. The mount moves about 1 inch. I heard that they should move only about a 1/4 inch. Can anyone confirm that this is a bad mount?

Thanks,
Matt

Re: 92' Accord rear motor mount

Motor mount won't cause rough idle. And it's a tough part. I have 2 92 Accords. Never have any problem with the motor mount.

I’m not too concerned about the rough idle. Actually I don’t think it’s abnormal for these cars.

I don’t like the clunk/jerk after the trans up shifts. Can you check to see how much your mount moves when loaded?

Thanks,
Matt

Re: 92' Accord rear motor mount

Chances are it's shot. Every 90-93 accord i've ever seen, owned, worked on, etc has had bad motor mounts. They are just old, and the rubber wears out. If you do a search for motor mount, you find tons of threads. It's just one of those things you can expect to go after so many years/miles. You should be able to find cheap replacements or poly mounts which are a bit harder.

As far as the rough idle, it could be your EGR valve, dirty throttle body/iac, loose/broken rubber vacuum hoses, etc.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

I'll replace all mounts except for the trans mount in the spring. Thanks for the reply. I'll do a search for "rough idle" and clean what you mentioned above.

It won't cause a rough idle per se, but it will make it seem rough, if it's the one I'm picturing it's actually a roll restrictor/damper, not actually a mount, and it controls the fore-aft pitching of the engine plus deadens the primary shake...it's very likely the cause of both problems (vibe and thud or clunk when switching from coast to accelerate), and seems to be a commonly worn part on Accords in my experience with them...

Thanks for all the replies. I’ll replace the 3 motor mounts and report back.
