Re: Heat problems, 1994 Bonneville

Yeah, give it a shot. It can't hurt to seal that area.

Re: Heat problems, 1994 Bonneville

It certainly could be a blocked heater core, and I bet thats what it is. Getting at the camps is a pain, but I used a short 1" extension and a 1/4 socket after I had loosened them with a very very short flathead screwdriver.

Basically, most of it is feeling around since its so difficult to see. Its getting off the old hoses thats a pain.

The clamps are the kind that you squeeze to get off.

Sqeeze them with plyers!

About that hole, if its inside the tape will last a long time.
If the hole is int he engine bay, it might not hold up long but will give you an idea if thats the culprit here.

Good Luck

Do yourself a favor and remove both heater hoses at the engine end and blow high pressure air or high pressure water in the opposite direction of flow and catch whatever comes out in a bucket or white rag and then test it.

Re: Heat problems, 1994 Bonneville

Yeah the clamps would be easy to get off with pliers if you could get to them. I found the flexible tool on Ebay that is made for this situation.

Re: Heat problems, 1994 Bonneville

SOme have reported they used a Dremmel tool with a cutting grinding wheel to cut that contraption out..then use a screwed collar on installation. Not sure if they could use the bare tool or if they used the flexible extension...but that is already my plan if I have to get there.

Re: Heat problems, 1994 Bonneville

Sounds like a good ideal to me. It is just scary thinking about trying to drop the dash to get the core out.

Re: Heat problems, 1994 Bonneville

Anyway, once the dash is down, you can pay a thorough check of all the flaps and valves before committing to the core....
