Unhappy Pissed and at a loss.

Purely vent and frustration.

This morning, 4 blocks from my work, I'm chigg'n along in my little Corolla, and BAM! right on it's face. So now I'm on my second Corolla, that has busted it's second timing belt (just replaced the damn thing 6 months ago ). Atleast I hope it's the belt. Funny thing is that it's there and there's tension, it's just not moving. The crank turns, so I'm stumped.

And cold.....

and pissed.

And I want my Buick back. When it started to take a dump, funny thing, in the very same intersection, it made all they way to the lot. But no, not this thing, $65 to get to safe harbour, and another $50 tonight to rent a trailer to get back home and tear it apart and see WTF gives.

Re: Pissed and at a loss.

That sucks. Maybe there's not enough friction between the crank and the belt, so the belt is ultimately slipping on the pulley. But I've never actually heard of that happening.

Re: Pissed and at a loss.

Well, slipping would be a logical guess, but the problem is belt and gear have teeth. So on first one that "lost" the belt, it was the teeth on the belt rotted and broke off, thus the crank was spinning away with the sterter.

The extremely odd part is the motor isn't turning excessiviely fast as it should.

It's such a dumb design, and tensioner is major PITA to get set straight.

Re: Pissed and at a loss.

Did you check all of the other pulleys to make sure they aren't holding up the belt?

Re: Pissed and at a loss.

The timing belt is incased and is turned by the crank, and only turns the cam

Then it externally turns the driven accessories.

Re: Pissed and at a loss.

Oh, I assumed it was the accessories belt.
I guess it makes more sense since you were saying 'timing belt'. I guess I'm just used to hearing 'timing chain' as opposed to belt.
Well, my next guess (if I'm understanding correctly) is that the pulley is sheared off.

Re: Pissed and at a loss.

Dylan... you need to think of the economics. $65 to tow it and $50 for a trailer? Just go buy another one for $25 and leave that one out to pasture. You're moving right? It would make one hell of a nice house warming present for the new owners.

Just look at the bright side... you could have bought RD like some other jackass I know and wound up having a lot more than a timing belt problem.

Re: Pissed and at a loss.

Economics? It's a Toyota, how much more economical could I be? Jeez, you sound like a damn accountant, ummm, oh yeah, never mind

Actually got a referal thru a referal and ended up getting a tow for $90. 1/3 the going rate, not bad.

Part that's pissing me off royaly now is the fact that I won't be able to start diving into to it until Saturday, and I want to know what happened now!

Haha, but wait there's more! driving the wife's Toreass this morning, for the first time, and the right rear strut is rather talkative, just needs a little tightening, but aggravating none the less. I'm just glad I sprung for the civil duty package suspension, handles pretty nice, better than my Caprice did. But damn, I miss the heat that little cracker box 'rolla put out. 10* this morning and luke warm heat until 2 blocks away from work. I have come to the conclusion that 6 cylinders suck for heat.

What happened to your car D.J.?

And Jim, I think RD has been more jerry-rigged than the bohemiam repair tactics of my house.

Re: Pissed and at a loss.

Problem found. Catastrophic distributer failure.

$52 bucks, towing reimbursed, life is back to normal.
