89 to 90 cluster question

ok my stock d15 is smokin pretty bad, i found a 89 Si for $200,black interior (yay) alright tires and the engine an tranny (200xxx miles but its just for now) oh ya the car was wrecked pretty bad
my question is if i swaped harnesses would the 90 cluster work on the 89 harness? or should i just wire up the MPFI on the DX harness?, swaping the harness is not that hard to me plus i will have the dash cause im swaping interior

DONT SWAP THE HARNESSES. it doesnt work. SI cabin harness,(doenst work) SI engine harness,( doesnt work) si cabin AND engine, (doesnt work). trust me i tried. you should wire the MPFI.they just dont work. and the clusters dont interchange either, only 90 and 91 change, and 88 and 89 can change too. they are shaped differently.

Are you wanting to put the 89 cluster in the 90? You can do that, but you will end up with a gap unless you try and swap the bezel with it and i still don't know how well that will work. If you need a how to, or the wiring diagrams on the clusters, just check out ami's website, my how-to is on there now.

you can swap the entire harness, and it will work, but it is a massive pain in the ass. a friend of mine with an 89 CRX DX was putting an MPFI SOHC ZC head on his d15b2 block, and he didnt know how to do the MPFI wiring changes, so he stripped out the entire dash, and removed the interior harness and the engine harness, which was from a 91 CRX and swapped them. Sure it works, but IT IS A PAIN IN THE ASS. it took him a whole day.

It will ONLY work if swapping the harness between the same year car, and it was made in the same country/factory. If not, you will have some minute wiring differences and tracing them out could take days/weeks. If they are different years, forget it. It's a 3-4 hour affair to do the MPFI wiring. The difference is only 4 wires anyway, it's not that much work. Why you would disassemble and remove your ENTIRE interior and swap harnesses and then reinstall the interior just to avoid adding 4 wires is beyond me. It really is comical.
