2006 impala ss growling noise
anyone have a 2006 SS? i have a noise when car is hot. leave from stop and you get a grinding growling noise. car had to have a new battery put in it when car was 2 days old. it also needs a new onstar back up battery. i also can no longer get AM radio stations. i have had car to dealer multiple times. have spoken to service manager. i am getting no where and am extremely frustrated. i also have trouble with power steering binding in parking lot.

Keep bringing these problems to the dealer. If they're no help, go over their heads and call GM directly. You may also want to check your lemon law.

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
I have an impala ss 2006. I had the problem with both batteris also. What had happened was it had a "stealth" security system installed which consisted of a relay that went under hood and a couple of key fobs. This security system is something the dealer installed and kept the cars from being stolen off the lot. My system randomly malfunctioned causing the main battery to drain down. The onstar system has a battery that comes online when the main battery is unable to function. This allows you to use your onstar when you are stranded with dead battery. But if left in this state it kills that battery also which is what happened to mine. I later removed the security system which eliminated the battery drain issue. Mine has been fine since. Both of my batteries where replaced under warranty.
As far as the grinding noise goes, I have no idea unless it is the traction control system, it sounds grindy when operating. In regard to your AM stations, you wouldn't have had your windows tinted lately would you? Some tint contains a metal that can interfere with AM stations I have heard. Good Luck. I am having problems with mud in my coolant and a flaky wheel tire pressure sensor cutting off intermittently. By the way, I also had a problem with the power steering loosing power in a parking lot a couple of times. Almost as if the rpms fell below the needed range to keep the power steering functioning properly. A little nudge of the gas pedal brought it back up. Glad to see someone else with a 2006 impala ss, I have yet to even see another like mine on the road and I have had mine for 5 months. |

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
mud in the radiator? i seem to have some kind of buildup in the overflow tank. is this what you have. im taking the car in tomorrow for the radio and will have them look at the radiator. that growling noise is either the ac comp or the alternator. i will be cvalling GM this week. ive spoken to the service manager.

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
If you are hearing a "growling" noise and the power steering is weak then it sounds as if the PS pump has issues such as low fluid level. The "mud" in the radiator issue is Dexcool congealing up, Just flush the system out.

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
Yes it is a build up in the overflow tank. Got progressively deeper and deeper. I removed it and put it in a jar to show the dealer. Doesn't seem to be getting back in though, don't know why. I realize whatever it is, its in the entire system and not just the reservoir but don't know why its not getting in the reservoir again, the tank is working properly.
I do not believe the coolant is congealing. Whatever this is it is settling in the bottom. Mixes easily but will seperate after a few hours. Brown and extremely fine particles. I will be waiting to see what they tell you about the radiator coolant if you don't mind posting about it after you take it back jacvily.

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
i took it in. mud in the radiator is supposedly a sealant put in by the factory. radio. cant find anything wrong. growling noise is normal. i spoke to gm and got nowhere. i told them just because other cars apparently do the same thing doesnt make the problems right.

By the way, mine doesn't do any growling so I don't see how that is normal.

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
Maybe I should take mine back and demand that they make mine growl like others do.
See if they work both sides of the fence. I feel sure they would. Thanks for the post about the coolant. I am taking mine back for the screwy tire pressure sensor and I will be asking about the coolant also. See what they tell me. |

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
check all four tires to insure they have the correct tire pressure then reset the tire pressure indicator on your radio

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
crazy Jim, I have checked the pressure and reset the system. I don't know anything about the system to which you are refering, maybe the 06 system has changed from the version you are talking about. I have an information center under my speedometer that displays the actual tire pressures in each individual wheel. The way the manual says to reset (such as a tire rotation) is to reset the pressure system using the dash button beside gauge cluster and to change the air pressure in each tire for five seconds or until you hear a double chime then move to the next tire, starting with the driver front tire and moving in a clockwise position ending with the driver rear. The radio as far as I know doesn't have anything to do with the tire pressure.
Even after rotating, I keep having issues with the same tire, no matter where it is located on the vehicle. I am hoping it is just the sensor in the wheel itself. |

Re: 2006 impala ss growling noise
Took my impala back in today for several things including the coolant, they told me the same thing, the "mud" was a sealant. They claimed to have flushed the system for me.
