1999 Pontiac Grand Am rear brake problems
The rear brakes on my wife's 99 Grand Am SE have stopped working. After tearing into it, I figured out that fluid was not getting to the calipers. I checked the brake lines traveling from the ABS control box (I think that is what it is called) to the rear calipers and they were in good shape, no kinks, holes, etc. The two brake lines from the master cylinder to the control box were also in good shape. I removed and checked each fluid line individually routing from the control box to each wheel. When the brake is applied, fluid is being pushed out of the box to the front wheels accordingly, but not to the rear. I am thinking that that the box is the problem, but a replacement one is fairly expensive, so I want to make sure that this is the problem before I lay down the cash. The ABS warning dash light alerted me to the problem, but after inspecting the rear pads, I believe that they had stopped working sometime before it came on. Has anyone else had this problem that could offer me some suggestions on further troubleshooting?

Re: 1999 Pontiac Grand Am rear brake problems
Welcome to AF !
I have heard of this happening but not very often. SO how did you conclude their is no fluid going to the rear lines/brakes ?? If you just loosend the bleeder valve, it could be pluged as this is common if the cap was missiing from the valve. If the bleeder valve is clear you might try a vacum pump device to see if you can clear the line(s). Brake fluid does wear out after time and extreme weather/driving conditions. And it Is recomended that you change it from time to time, through flushing with new fluid. If it is your ABS modulator, you might want to have that done somewhere. Its a tight fit, and under A Lot of pressure at those lines under the battery compartment.
