Got Links?

Well, I'm nearly ready,(within the month), to take this heap, [in my sig], to the next level, or trade it in for another, HO, that doesn't knock so damn much when she gets warmed up and not so bothered-(200*,and no muffler covering the noise, the ol' girls' motor is still slamming at the shift points! UHGH...). Much work to be done still... Knocking on Heaven's Door, Poor girl...

So, enough with the update. I was hoping that one/some of the 'Cher-Sqad' could help a Tri-City, VA resident find links to home-made snorkle solutions. I'd much rather do-it-myself than pay some critter $400+ to not take into account what I plan for her later, YKWIM!

Thanks

Cool Re: Got Links?

Search and you will find.

On ebay now:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-...spagenameZWDVW

He sells instructions. I might even make one.

Here is another solution:

Re: Got Links?

Thanks, I saw the first link yesterday searching around. The second one is an interesting idea, though I don't see it working in especially deep holes.

I'll also post any other links I happen to find...

Please do make one! Any insight into the process would be very helpful!

Cool Re: Got Links?

How deep do you wanna go? The second one is good up to the windshield wiper arms.

The other problem is the engine fan turning into a propeller and pulling foward into the radiator. A round or even retangular BBQ grill might work for up there.

But for "Macy's at the mall" trails you should buy one. [joke]

Post pictures when you are done. [sent you a PM]

Re: Got Links?

Well, I'm no mechanic, although inclined as such...(I've done a tranny in a camero, LOL) I just don't have the experience yet. Where there's a will there's a Jeep, ay!

The pic is not mine, but rather an example of where I wanna go. Whether I've got to rebuild, trade-in, or put her on a back 'project' burner, I,m going to make my gal soar. So, basically, i want to go as deep as ^she'll^ go, with a snorkle.

I'm going to look into the grills you refferenced. Haven't heard about 'em b4.? They're not like a 14 guage wire bender are they?

I'll be sure to post pics of my various nefarious restults as they happen...

Thanks for the links friend!

This is just funny... http://howtoprankatelemarketer.ytmnd.com/

Cool Re: Got Links?

If you are going to trade in...IMHO...i would look for a 97-99 XJ, or a 96, then a 95.

If you want to splurge, again IMHO...the TJ (Wrangler) Unlimited with hard top...circa 2000 to 2006...You still might be able to get one new with the 4.0L.

Just looking, but:

New Wrangler Rubicon (07) comes with lockers (electric), sway bar disconnect (electric), 32s MTs, gears, rock rails, skids, all from the factory. All you need then is bumpers, rack, winch, or whatever else suits your fancy. Lift? wait a short while and you should have.

I've been around, looking into why one year would be better than another, and have only found one reference to the '95(+?) not needing an SYE with a lift...

I am leaning towards buying another XJ, (the engine in the one I've got needs some major work I fear ...)

So, why the preference in years? What happened in 1995?..

Thanks.

Cool Re: Got Links?

IMHO....I like 97-99...I have a 97 (2D..4X4) and the kid has the 2001 (4DR..2WD)

1st topic: 96+ usually needs SYE with a lift...usually I said not always (or the poor man fix...TC drop) the reason is the rear transfer case seal and slip yoke was redesigned. The link below can give you some info on changes.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=598529

2nd topic: looks and interior redesigned in 97..

http://www.xjjeeps.com/com_xjjeeps/t...ection=2&ID=18

3rd topic: For lifts the front diff was changed from a HP (high pinion to a LP (low pinion) design in 2000. With very high lifts, this causes driveshaft "bind" due to the steeper angles.

4th topic: all models will need a SYE with extremely high lifts (no TC drop will do)..

http://www.4xshaft.com/index.html

One last tip, this guy has a book on how to build up an XJ:

Aloha...enough for now
