735i exhaust

Hey everyone, new to Bimmers, just picked up an 85 735i in really good condition recently but the rear muffler is completely shot. It is the only part of the exhaust system that needs replacing. I have done some looking and have found a rear muffler from Ansa and Bosal but they were kinda pricy and I dont know if that is just for the rear muffler itself or the whole rear system. It seems to be hard to find exhaust parts for the e23 but there are lots out there for the e32. Can you just cut the muffler off on mine and fit an e32 rear muffler on or what is the best way to do this. Any ideas or help are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

Re: 735i exhaust

I'm in the same boat.
The OEM parts seem to be $345 for the front half including cat and $310 for the rear half, or somethign like that.
I believe thats the BMW price I found somewhere.

Check out this site.

Consider this.
If you're restoring, buy the OEM and mount it yourself if you can.
You should be able to remove and bolt on as long as the mounting kits aren't welded to shit.
And you may need new mounting gear ( Brackets and so forth, they seem to rust with the exhaust)

If your not worried about a numbers matching part then I think the E32 parts will work.
Look at the Flowmaster Cat and you'll need to have everything welded in. Then you can pretty much choose what you want.

Good Luck
Howie.

Re: 735i exhaust

If you must have the OEM then stay away from Ansa, I have never had good luck with them. Myself, I would go to a local (not MIDAS, etc) muffler shop and see if they could not fabricate what you need for a decent price.
