86 toyota pickup 22r automatic electronic overdrive

I have an 86 toyota pickup it has a 22r with automatic transmission
i have to let off the gas at 20 and 40 to get it to shift then at 55 rpms go up push the overdrive button and it dont help i was told it has been that way sinse 1987 starting to get worse and drinking alot more gas can any one tell me how to fix it

Probably the OD solenoid in the tranny, but could be in the tranny's ECM or OD switch circuit.

is that something easy to fix or do i have to get the transmission rebuilt
