Rowing

K well seeing as how nobody has posted in this forum it seems there aren't very many rowers on here. but in case there are, how much experience does everyone have with rowing. I started rowing this year and love it. my coach is the best sculler in canada 2 years running, came 4th in the workd championships this past summer, could have come in 3rd but his crew messed up at the end.

I row a cox'd 4 in stroke seat. we've competed in 3 regattas so far and have won every race in our class that we have competed in. we are in novice competitions. we're going to the schoolboys regatta in St Catherines, Ontario, Canada, if anyone else is going tell me, we can talk lol. Our goal is to get to the semi finals, which means we have to beat 3 crews in our heat, our coach has confidence that we can do it if we row well so i think we can do it.

I plan on rowing for my university next year (probably carleton university in ottawa, ontario, Canada).

Re: Rowing

well i got bored so i figured i might as well update this, even though nobody's gonna check it out.

so my high school did really well at st catherines, we were a novice crew, we had only been rowing for 2 months, everyone else in our race was senior, meaning they were around our age and had been rowing for at least a year, but most likely 2 or 3. so knowing that, we were incredibly impressed to find out we came 39th out of 50 or something, we beat 11 schools. we were 3rd for the first half of the race, lost that at the halfway point, then we lost 4th in the last 20 meters. very close to the semis but the lack of training and endurance showed when the other crew passed us.

now i'm rowing for carleton university. we don't have a very competitive program but it doesn't matter as long as we have one. our boat wasn't terrible but it could have been much better. i find it quite sad that at st catherines when i was in high school, our 4+ finished in 7:45, now in university, at the same course, our 4+ finished in 7:43. so i was disappointed with that but what ya gonna do. we're training pretty hard until the next season, fall 2007, and we're hoping to be competitive, we want to have a lightweight eight, meaning i have to lose about 20lbs to be a lightweight.

and just in case anyone reads this who doesn't row: you should try it, it's a great sport and really tests you mentally and physically. it works your entire body, has a great combination of strength and endurance so you can be built and be good in long distances, it's a low impact sport so it's good on your joints (as opposed to running), and it promotes good sportsmanship and teamwork because everyone has to work in unison and everyone has to adapt to everyone else in the boat. it's also a sport you can do for the rest of your life, at the club i row out of i've seen many old men (old being 70+ years old) who still row well and are still competing and can give some of the young guns a run for their money. but the most important part of all, rowing girls are hot. you go to a regatta and everywhere you look there are girls with nice fit bodies in spandex. some of the heavyweight girls are beastly, some get their weight from their height, but the lightweight girls are prime...... i know it sounds creepy but after you've rowed intensly for week after week, all you can think about is girls since you haven't really had time to do much else (i mean before a big regatta, when you train rediculously hard and long to iron out any little issues with the boat).
