90% complete Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

not the one I mentioned in another thread but i've had this one going for ages and having had an accident to the paint which I couldn;t fix properly really put me off.

looking at how many other kits I've got to do though spurred me to get it finished as soon as possible and now, apart from a few decals and trim details, it's 90% (ish) complete.

one thing I wanted to do with this kit was to see if i could "fix" the stupid revell wheel system.
the result
front:

rear:

this was my second metallic/clear job ever and it's not perfect having been rubbed through on a few areas after failing the resist more polishing after painting trims and glassworks and stuff.

Engine is out of box but I made a few minor corrections and the next one will have a few details that are missing added....

A 90% Ferrari- man, I know what that's like.

The color looks great on it. Good shine on the bonnet. Rosso Rubino?

nope.
don't have an airbrush so everything I do is handpainted and spray can.
body is three coats (one light "danger zone" coat then two all over wet coats) of tamiya mica red (my new favourite red) over a gold base coat.

this was actually started about a year ago as a side by side test of metallic red and mica red over a gold base.
the metallic red car is just a body right now.... i.e 15-20% complete....

edit:
an old pic that i've shown before but of these ones, only the lotus, dino and scag and bmw are nearly finished.
the ZR-1 of the other thread I actually started after these and I managed to get more done to it than these.

Re: 90% complete Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

nope.
i rescured some polycaps from my spares box and drilled out a hole for them in the wheel hub.
then I cemented the brake disk to the hub.
the strange yellow you see is my own plastic weld+sprue mix that I use for a solid filling material because I couldn't get the hole perfectly in the centre the first time around.

the wheels were simple, cut out the rear set of spokes and glue the two halves together. you just then locate the centre of the wheel and drill a little hole to receive a length of plastic rod.

i've just started prepping another one of these so i'll be sorting out another set of wheels+hubs.
I'll get pics of that process when I get to it.

tamiya rims will be the same as above.
fujimi will be a bit more difficult - in this case, it makes more sense to me to convert the "female" fujimi to tamiya style "male" type fitting and just do the same as I did.
that means you'd still need a set of poly-caps and a suitable bit of plastic/metal rod that will fit the poly-cap.

Re: 90% complete Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

update:

modified wheel: it's not the tidiest wheel in the world but from the outside it does the job.

and some of the interior.
this was just box stock and hand painted.
there are errors in details that I know for next time and I still need to fabricate a gearshift panel cos mine went down the drain after stripping that chrome.
