XM/Sirius Install questions.

When I purchased my Sirius reciever at Circuit City the other day the salesman in their car audio department was hard-selling me on letting them install the unit. I've already put an XM radio in my dad's '05 GT with very good results, so I wasn't interested. However, now that I've got my unit installed in my '99 SE the results aren't so pleasing. First of all I'm using my tape deck to get better sound quality than the FM transmitter in the Sirius unit gives, so that's one extra wire (not a problem, I'll eventually run an FM modulator). Second, I don't have the handy extra 12V aux plug in the armrest that the '04 and up cars have, so I've got the power wire running down my center console.

One thing the salesman mentioned was that they usually snip the cig. lighter plug when Circuit City does the install, and run the power line to the ignition so that you only have power when the car is on. I'd like to duplicate this idea, but avoid paying $100 to Circuit City for a mod that I'm sure I can do myself (with a little help from my friends here of course). So, my question is where would be the easiest and safest place to pick up a 12V source. Obviously I could just pull the center console and wire the radio to cig. lighter or the aux plug on the passenger side, but I like the idea of the ignition killing the power to my receiver as well. Any ideas would be great, and pictures or good descriptions are always helpful.

Just to give everyone an idea I have pulled the trim off to yank out the radio on an '01GP SE, but that's about all the work I've done behind the dash. Thanks in advance guys.

Re: XM/Sirius Install questions.

Simply run your power wire to the fuse box and plug it into an unused fuse socket. That way you can have power when the key is on and it will kill the receiver when it is off. On the 01 model this should be quite easy as the fuse box is quite accessable.

Re: XM/Sirius Install questions.

Good call. I should be able to run it behind the glove box and up to the box, right?

Thanks again,
Bry

Re: XM/Sirius Install questions.

how do you install a Sirius radio on a 2006 grand prix? how do you run your antanna wire from the center of the roof near the back window? on my 1999 grand am it was ran down the back window molding in to the trunk into the back seat, under the drivers side door molding trim to the dash and to the center of the lower part of the windshield. My Gp have folding back seats. Help please, i am tired of old fashion radio.
