3.4 thermostat impossible

I have a leaky gasket at the thermostat on my 02 alero 3.4 litre. The only way possible i can see to get to the bottom bolt is taking of the exhaust pipe in the way. which means taking of other things to get to it. any suggestions that would make it easier?

Welcome to AF.

It is tedious and a PITA. You may get the extra clearance you need just by removing the crossover pipe heat shield without having to remove the complete crossover pipe. Then just use a short open end metric wrench on the bottom bolt. The bolt is short. Some people remove the complete throttle body and coolant lines but that is up to you.
