Speaker question- adapter plate in front door
I'm about to replace my door speakers in my jimmy with a set of pioneer 6.5". Crutchfield says that i need an adaptor plate to make the speakers fit into the stock location. I am buying from another source with much cheaper prices and awas just wondering if i actually need to buy the adaptor or have people installed new speakers without much modification in the stock bracket that the speakers are already in.

Re: Speaker question- adapter plate in front door
I cut out a couple of rings from a peice of 3/4" mdf I had sitting in my garage.
That gave me the extra height for the deper speakers. If I remember ther is a lip on the back side of the door panel that will hit a deeper speaker when installed, so I took a sander and ground it off. Just for refrence Im running these in my rear doors and these in the front doors. Actually mine are the older versions but you get the idea. |

Re: Speaker question- adapter plate in front door
wow someones useing my guide! anyway, since then i have found out a lot more about blazer sound systems.
you will not need an adapter plate most likey, although you *might* im not sure. they changed the system almost yearly (mines a 95) and the jimmys and other stuf are diferent also. my fronts were definatly 6.5s and crotchfeel said i needed an adapter too. probably a trick they pull to get people to buy from them for the free adapters and crap, too bad buying it all yourself on ebay is still half the price. one thing i do know is that there is a crosover somewhere in the car. if you just slap speakers in there without bypassing the crosover your speaks will sound like ass. i HIGHLY recomend running new speaker wire when you put new speaks in, cause its a bitch finding the crosover. in my year the fron speaks share a chanel with the dash tweeters. that means the high notes from the front chanel of the head unit goes to the tweets and the mids and lows go to the door. if you dont bypass this and you put normal speaks in the door they will only be half as loud as they can be, and will only play mids and lows. you should replace your head unit before your speakers also. its realy, realy easy, just get a wire harnes and adater kit from wal mart they are like 20 bucks total. get a japanese sized head unit, but make sure its on the short side cause the blazer dash hole aint that deep. i recomend getting a 250 dollar flip out monitor from ebay and switching the climate controls to the other side (so yuor flip out doesnt hit your gear selecter). if you think dropping 250 on a no-name flip out on ebay is sketchy i think wal mart has some for 500. anything wal mart sells comes with a 3 month unconditional warenty on top of whatever the manufacturer is offering. |

Re: Speaker question- adapter plate in front door
I think I ended up using about 300 feet of 16awg wire in my truck. No point in skimping and using the stock junk.

Re: Speaker question- adapter plate in front door
No adapters needed here.
I used infinity 6002i's from Ebay. Go to ebay and buy them, super cheap.
