94 cutlass supreme 3.4 Rough IDLE afte timing belt change

Hi,

Has anyone experienced this.

My timing belt went on this car I replaced the belt.
Now it Idles rough. Driving is fine. I did a compression test and everything is ok
I checked the wires and plugs all good. I think I may have a vacume leak somewhere. but the drawing that I get on most websites is very basic. Really doesn't tell you much. Also in Idle if I press the gas pedal the revs go up and up
on thier own and I have to kick the gas pedal a few times to bring it back down.

I have gone through the car a few times now and still can't find the problem.

Any Ideas you may have will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

It sounds like you have a carboned up throttle body, including the IAC valve passage.

Maybe your off by a tooth when you lined up the sprockets.
You might need to do a cylinder leak down test instead of just the compression test.. take out plugs, get #1 cylinder to TDC, and then pressurize that cylinder... find TDC by putting a pen in the spark-plug hole and turning the engine manually until the pen comes to it's very highest point before sinking in again... this is after you confirm your on the compression stroke of course....
If you have a vacumme leak, then you must have knocked something when doing this job... grab a propane torch and run the motor. Sweep the torch around and listen for changes in idle.
Lastely, check out the PCV valve grommette. Just my .2 cents... im gonna go with a vacumme leak though, just because the idle problem is new after the timing belt, where as a carbon build up would have been evident before as well.

Thanks

I will try these Idea's and let you know.
But speaking of the PVC I have had my suspisions about it I went to the
Parts place thinking that I may as well replace it. but once I installed it
it didn't seem to sit right and didn't look the same as the old one. the person
at the parts place assured me that its the right one. Unfortunatly I did something that I know I shouldn't have the minut I did it. I threw the old one away. I think I better go to GM and get a new one.

Thanks again

If it sits loosely in it's bore then you definately have a problem.. if it's tight, you may not have a vacumme leak, but you won't have proper crankcase pressure relife.. im sure you knew that..
anyway, I don't listen to parts people anymore.. the last time for me was when they told me my spark-plugs came pre-gapped. Wrong. Be sure to tell us here when you solve your problem. Many people never return, leaving us wondering. It's good though, to put a solution to a symptom for educational purposes.. thanks
