help with 98 honda civic
I have a 98 civic ex with 120,000 . I drove a short distance the other day and the car just lost power and i pulled over, tried starting and it would turn over . waited about 20 minutes and it started right up, i had the alternator checked and battery, it is only 2 years old, today i tried starting it and it was cold out and would not start, could this be a fuel pump , or bad relay? any help is appreciated. Also i had the timing belt changed already.

Re: help with 98 honda civic
...Ignition. It could be a problem in the ignition system, check the distributor cap & rotor first, replace if necessary. If thats fine, it could be a problem with the distributor itself.

Re: help with 98 honda civic
Does it turn over? If not it may be your alternator, they'll do that.
If it turns over but is not firing, checking the fuel pump is easy. Get your ear up next to the fuel tank and have someone turn the key to the on position without starting it, you should hear the pump run for about 3 to 5 seconds. If it runs, check for spark by pulling a spark plug with wire attached and plug grounded on something and have someone try and start and see if you're getting spark. If no spark, it's ignition. You can also loosen the fuel filter conn and check for pressure.
