Food dehydrator vs. dish dryer?
I have been seriously thinking about getting a dehydrator lately..
Upon web searching I have found out that when the dehydrator may cost 40$.. the shipping to Taiwan will cost more than 50$, that is IF the company/person is willing to ship it here. Ronco, Nesco and a lot of other brands won't ship these out of the US. So... 2 questions: Is there anywhere I can get a good dehydrator without paying an arm and a leg for shipping? (I've asked around locally and the people react like I'm from Mars or something...they don't even know what a food dehydrator is!) Would a dish dryer work? I still need to check up on the heat temps. Something like this Thanks for any replies! Steve

Re: Food dehydrator vs. dish dryer?
A dish dryer? Jeez, that's a pretty lame solution to a non-problem! That's the most expensive dish towel that I've ever seen
That ad says it cuts off at 47 degrees F!! That sounds more like a dish chiller. I'm sure they meant 47C. Which is a bit too hot for models, 105F is about as high as you want to go. Save yourself the trouble, if you can't find a dehydrator in your country make one from a box and one or two small portable lamps. Enclosed space with a low-voltage heat source is all you need, and a shipping box with a lamp inside should work for you. Check the temperature and vent as necessary. Here's a tutorial on how to make an elaborate paint dryer. You could simplify from here: http://www.ninfinger.org/~sven/models/tools/dryer.html

Quote:
I was looking for other alternatives because a satisfactory dehydrator costs 30~60$'s.. while the shipping also costs that price, making a total of around 80-120$'s..I was pretty displeased at the thought of spending that much on S&H... thanks for the link though. Steve

Re: Food dehydrator vs. dish dryer?
Did a few search in google for Food dehydrator a while ago.
Food dehydrator and dish dryer should be generally cheaper, but the only thing that you might want to concern are the dust get inside the chamber. |
