anybody changed a waterpump on a 1.5?

i was just wanting to know. i thought the alternator was the problem because of squealing and throwing off the belt, so i changed it without investigating any further. well to make a long story short, it was the waterpump. just by looking at it, it looks like a real pain in the butt. i am working on a 95 protege. thanks

Question Re: anybody changed a waterpump on a 1.5?

I have the same problem with the belt thing. I've changed the belt, only to throw it again. Just changing the belt is a pain in the butt on this car. I don't want to think about the water pump. seems like I might have to though.

Best of luck.

(Based on a 1.6 L engine) You have to remove the timing belt as part of the job. Replace it as well as your other belts while you have them off. You'll need an engine lift or jack to support your engine for a bit. You have to remove the engine mount to get the timing belt off. It's a good day's work, but can be done a weekend mechanic.
