Re: maintenance

I suggest you read the FAQ.

For oil I would use nothing other than synthetic. Mobil 1 is good, and Royal Purple or Redline are even better but more expensive.

new plugs and wires would be a good idea. don't get cheap plugs, get NGK Platinums (stock plugs). as for wires, MSD is the best. you can pick up some 8.5mm MSD universal fit wires for 70 bucks and simply cut to fit.

for the stock air filter, just blow the dirt out with an air hose.

Polygon made some great suggestions for oils.

Re: maintenance

Do the entire 120k tuneup including oil pump. Links are in the FAQ.

Oils..teh brands listed above are my personal favorites and you should use whatever weight your manual recommends.

If your air filter is over 15k old, you should replace it, otherwise, don't worry about it. If you can't remember when the last time you replaced hte fuel filter, then do that.

Also if you can't remember hte last time you changed the drivetrain oils/tranny fluid...now would be a good time.

Re: maintenance

120k is a really important point with these cars. You need to replace pretty much every replaceable part lol. That includes your oil pump as well as your water pump, belts, pulleys, tensioner, etc. You don't want a critical part failing because it is 120k/15 years old.

Plug wires, because chances are they havn't been changed in awhile, and they should be at 120k. Seriously read the faq, under 60k tuneup links, every part listed there should be done.

Now I don't know what model 3000gt you have or if it's auto or manual, but you need to change the fluid/oil in your tranny/transaxle/transfer case/rear end (whichever are applicable). Check your owners manual for drain/fill plug locations. We can recommend specific fluids when you tell us waht exactly you own.

4) anything else?
1) stock wires have a lot of resistance. resistance increases over time. to get the best spark possible you want the least resistance possible across the wire. read this about wires. also, this diagram should help, it was taken from the page linked in the previous sentence.

2) oil pump is necessary unless you want a spun bearing. don't cut corners on regular maintenance; you'll pay for it with a blown engine.

3) only drivetrain fluid you have is the tranny fluid. you should replace the fluid about once a year. you can read about how to do it here.

4) read the FAQ, please. in it are all the recommended parts to change/things to do for the 120K service. i know it seems like a lot, but this is a high performance car. if you don't maintain it, it WILL break.

if you have any other questions, do a search. these things have been asked and answered before in great detail.
