Great thread, your work is going to pay off at the end.

What did you use as a "carpet"? That looks great.

Keep it up, I'm learning a lot...

Carlos Jorge

I guess you mean the anti-skid plate. It's part of the upgrade set from Crazy Modeler, here's my review http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=633773

Re: Progress: 1/24 Ferrari F430 Challenge

“So, what shall we do with this fire extinguisher ?”. This was my friend Alessandro yesterday during a phone call, he’s also working on a Challenge. In five minutes we declared that the kit part is horrible and there are no offers from the aftermarket…
When I saw the F1-2000 progress from Mr. Kamimura, last year, I’ve been impressed, among the other things, how he scratchbuilt from bare aluminium rod, some fire bottles using a motortool. Hmmm…

So I bought 1 meter of alu rod dia. .23”/6mm and cut in pieces (1.55”/40mm). A drill, a file and sandpaper

To avoid surface damages, I wrapped some styrene around the rod and fixed in the drill. At a rather high speed I started filing the rod to obtain a perpendicular cut. Then with the file again I gave to the rod a little rounded shape. I refined it with sandpaper #150, #600 and #1000. And this is the first side of the bottle

I traced the length (a little more) where to cut the rod

and started cutting

At this stage, I removed the unnecessary piece from the drill and installed what will be the bottle with the finished side in the drill, always protected by the styrene

and repeated the same filing procedure above described

and this is the result

Using the kit part as reference, I drilled out two holes .051”/1.3mm on the bottle

and some cable terminals (is it the right word ?) to detail the bottle have been used

These small pipes have been hammered on the bottle

Strap, caps and cable will added for further detailing. Despite this part will be almost hidden once installed, I’m really pleased with the result, considering that it was my first attempt on such topic.

Many, many thanks for your kind words. Also thanks for looking.

Bye: Robi

Re: Progress: 1/24 Ferrari F430 Challenge

Cool, another update. Looks good Robi, I have tried that with a moto-tool but eventually gave up and bought myself a lathe.
What are the cable terminals for (in real life) I have never seen those before and I could use those kinds of tips for various things.

Mike, I have seen them used on the terminal boards of industrial control cubicles and CPU connections

Those have been a gift from a German ex-colleague.

You make it look so simple and like you've been doing it since you learned to walk...

Nice job, you couldn't do it better.

I don´t think so... In Germany there is a home store called "Prevo". There should be some to find.

Robi, how do you manage to do a picture during work? Or do you have a photographer? Great skills you have and thanks for showing them. It´s a pleasure to watch your work!

Re: Progress: 1/24 Ferrari F430 Challenge

Hi, thanks to all for the comments.

DasWiesel > In Italy these things are called “capicorda”. Anyway I got them a few years ago from a German ex-colleague, as gift. I guess, but I have to verify, that should be found in the electronics shops.

Risko > No photographer. Normally I place the camera between the subject and me, using a mini-tripod. I usually take the focus while holding (for example) the motortool with the left hand firmly placed on the table. Using the self-timer set to 10 secs I have the time to go into the scene with the right hand holding a file or something else. I normally use the apertures setting with f7.1 and a consequent exposure time of approx 1/8 sec. I take at least 4-5 shots to be sure about the result.

Bye: Robi
