88 730i idling 2000rpm

Hi, I have an 88 730i which rev's itself to between 1500 & 2000rpm. It does
this when cold and warm. I have cleaned then replaced the Idle control valve to no avail. Any suggestions please?
PS. I have checked throttle cables and they are not sticking.

Thank you very much for your reply Ali. I shall certainly try that. My car has not been used for a while now as people think I am revving it like a boy racer at traffic lights! PS I have tried other things like the throttle position switch and the volume air flow to no avail. Thanks Again Ali.
