1998 hyundai accent gear/transmission problem.. *downsifted at 5 mph from 3rd to 1st"

hi IM doug,

thank you for taking the time to read this.. heres my story I was pullin up to a stop sign.. i was in 3rd gear in my 5 speed hyundai accent and about 15 feet or when i was going no more than 5 MPH i downshifted to first gear I heard a clank and that was all I could no longer go into first reverse or anything... so... i got some help a few ppl look at it with me we checked to see if anything was visabily wrong liek linkage from the clutch or when i shifted into first 2nd 4rd if those little arms didnt move well everythign panned out ok there aftyer being visually inspected .. so they all moved freely without obstruction.. I ahve to put the clutch in to start the car but from that point on... I can select any gear without depressin the clutch casue. well it just plays free.. one odd thing however when i went to push the car down the drive way yesterday.. it felt liek the emergency brake was on... not sure what i did but somehow when i hit the clutch the car rolled freely again just like it did right after the loud clank noise... thank you for your time and take care
