multiple problems with a tempo.

my friend has a 87 tempo with some problems. it is a 2.3L 5sp. car. The problems are it blew about 2.5 litres of oil out of the pcv valve and overheated. the car was low on coolant. now the car will not start. It will turn over but won't start. It sounds like it is flooded when you try to start it. The ignition control module on the distributor was recently replaced with a used one and i am wondering if that could be part of the problem. Thanx for checking this out. any ideas would be helpful.

Re: multiple problems with a tempo.

Have you looked at the spark plugs?

Re: multiple problems with a tempo.

First do a compression test if it overheated bad it probably blew a head gasket. Was any antifreeze on the pistons when you installed new plugs.
Auto zone or advance will check a module for free. Take a 12volt test light put it on the coil negative if it blinks the pickup in the dist is working. If it doesn't blink the pickup in the distributor is bad. If the module checks good and the pickup is good. Check the eec relay and ground in the right kick panel. You also could have a bad coil.
